Ave Maria Academy Mission Statement
Ave Maria Academy is unswervingly faithful to the Magisterium of Holy Mother Church as we firmly intend to pass on the Deposit of Faith and the wisdom of the saints with a classical liberal arts education grounded in the Catholic tradition. Ave Maria Academy intends to educate the whole human person by the cultivation of the intellectual, moral, and theological virtues through Liturgy, academics, exercise, and the performing and fine arts. The Good, the True, and the Beautiful are one integrated whole in God who enlightens our efforts to form a joyful community of believers in Communion with the Saints. We intend to foster a culture imbued with a Catholic worldview integrated with faith, hope, and charity, in accord with God’s plan in His economy of salvation and the New Evangelization. We support parents, the first and primary educators, in their task to raise children for God’s kingdom. We hold all the saints up as heroes in faith but especially the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother, Queen and patroness, and Saint George, our patron and exemplary knight.
Our Lady, The Mother We Hail, Full of Grace
The Archangel Gabriel gives us good reason to embrace Jesus’ mother in full and joyful confidence, for in the Gospel of Luke when he greets her, “Hail, full of grace,” there is the beginning of the promise of our salvation in the Good News of Jesus Christ. The archangel calms her trepidation with an assurance: “Do not be afraid,” and further, at the news of her cousin Elizabeth’s miraculous pregnancy, “Nothing is impossible with God.” With joy, we look to Mary and follow in her holy footsteps. Mary urges us by her words, her silences, her deeds and submissions to convert our hearts and to look with confidence to her Son. She is our pure and humble guide in servitude, our pious model in what it means to trust in God’s will, and ultimately our sovereign Queen who teaches us the joys of heaven and aids us from above out of love for her Son. Not only in acts of veneration and devotion do we attend to Our Lady, but as an Academy dedicated to the Truth we seek her ways to live Christ. Further, in a special way, we revere Mary in her role as Lady and imitate the several ways, as faithful servants, we can protect her blessed stature as Ave Maria Academy knights. Looking to St. George, the knight who saved the princess from the dragon, we find a Christian hero to help herald our mission.
George, “a Tiller of Soil”
The name George means “a tiller of soil.” The metaphor of farming very aptly illustrates the efforts of Catholic education. Ave Maria Academy sets out to prepare the souls of children for the reception and cultivation of the seeds of Christ’s grace for the fruits of God’s kingdom. As a farmer weeds and turns the soil, so a teacher removes the obstacles of error, poor example, and tasteless art. Instead, the teacher cultivates with the great stories of heroes and saints, prayer, the sacraments, beautiful music, and inspired art. A culture steeped in the Good, the True, and the Beautiful prepares students to be co-creators themselves, receptive to grace and inspiration from the Creator.
